Farmers are rightly said to be the backbone of our nation. For us, it is almost impossible to imagine a life without them. Thus the saying: Jai Jawan Jai Kisan. They are integral to the society and are one with the nation's very soul.

Farmers work tirelessly in order to provide us with the basic necessities of life; devoting their entire existence to that cause. There are many farmers who live below the poverty line and require money in order to support their livelihood. The climate change we've caused has messed up with the cycle of seasons, leading to the scarcity of water supply. This is because the level of rainfall in many regions are turning low, giving rise to droughts. These droughts result in the land drying and heating up, the plants planted in these regions dying or not even getting a chance to sprout.

This further leads to a massive loss for the farmers as their entire livelihood is destroyed right before their eyes. Big farmers with acres of land and crores of profits might obtain artificial water supply for their farms from places that received adequate rainfall but small farmers are the ones who are in deep trouble as they cannot afford artificial irrigation for their crops. Thus they resort to using the water from the wells and when it dries up too, they try to tend the plants with the water they use for personal hygiene as a last attempt.

But most of the time it isn't enough, keeping in mind that the farmers also have to provide for their families. They usually sell their domestic animals at low prices in order to obtain money to survive. Till the money runs out, the farmers desperately try for another job or pray for a miracle: for the dark clouds to show up and bless them with an abundance of water when it seems like all hopes are lost.

But the very nature of a miracle is that they are rare and hoping for it would not guarantee it. The farmers might have already taken loans that they now cannot repay. It is not because they don't want to repay, but they don't have money for themselves in the very first place. Finally they decide to mortgage their land in order to pay off their debts, but because of the relatively small land-holding, it still isn't possible for them to pay it all off.

This leads to the farmers getting chased by the officials in order to complete repaying their loans, putting a huge financial stress on their heads, urging them to make desperate life changing, sometimes, life ending decisions. Statistics say that 6,351 farmers committed suicide in 2016 because of lack of resources.

The government has come up with schemes for the farmers' financial relief, including the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sanman Nidhi initiative recently. It provides marginalized farmers 6000 rupees per year. But the question remains that between farm, families and debts, is it really enough?

Recently, the Government of India launched a new initiative intended to benefit the farmers of our nation. This scheme is known as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi and is to ensure that the small Indian farmers, especially the ones in the rural areas will be provided with a certain amount of money as financial support given to them by the government every year. Indian agriculture sector makes up for 18 per cent of India's gross domestic product (GDP) and offers employment to 50% of the country's workforce. India is a largely agrarian country and even though it is developing, farmers still remain a very important part of our nation. Many of them continue to live below the poverty line, trying their best to make ends meet. With the help of this initiative, about one hundred and twenty million small and marginal Indian farmers will be benefited. These farmers, who have less than 2 hectares, which is equal to 4.9 acres of land holding, will obtain up to six thousand rupees (which is approximately US $83) per year as minimum income support directly from the government.

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme was announced by the current finance minister Piyush Goyal during the 2019 Interim Union Budget of India which took place on the 1st of February 2019. The scheme, which was established during the office of prime minister Narendra Modi, will cost seventy five thousand crore (approximately US $10 billion) per annum and has come into effect from December 2018.

Six thousand rupees per year will be paid to each eligible farmer with the help of three separate instalments of two thousand rupees each. This will be transferred and deposited directly to their bank accounts from the government.

The eligibility criteria for attaining this benefit is as follows: the name and the gender of the land owner should be given in the database along with their social classification, in order to check whether they are a part of the scheduled tribes or scheduled castes. They must also give their Aadhaar number, their bank account number and mobile number as well.

The Janshan Bank Account Number, Aadhaar number and mobile number will help in identifying eligible beneficiaries and distinguishing them from all the fake claimants. The farmers having cultivated land of two hectare or less will be considered as being eligible for this scheme.

This initiative by the government was met with mixed responses and reviews from the opposition and the general public. While some people appreciated that the government was offering some sort of financial aid to the small farmers, many thought the amount provided by the government to them wasn't enough to support their livelihood. Rahul Gandhi opposed by saying that giving farmers Rs.17 per day is an insult to everything they stand and work for. Some farmers say that the aid was too little and too late, instead wanting the government to provide them with minimum support price for their crops.
Rachel had completely zoned out. Though she was supposed to concentrate on the presentation Ryan was giving in the classroom, she was more interested in Ryan himself.

He was saying something about how Brexit impacted the economy but all Rachel could see was the absolute confidence radiating from his tall, chiselled physique and the pang she felt in her heart everytime he flashed a dimpled smile at the class. His rimmed glasses created an aura of intelligence around him while his tousled brown hair kept him from appearing too nerdy.

"Any questions?" Ryan asked the class, his voice startling her.

Rachel knew there were two types of presentations where no one asks any doubts. One was when everyone understood everything that was being told and the other was when no one understood anything being told. She shook her head, mainly because she didn't pay attention to what he was saying, along with the rest of her classmates who seemed impressed by his presentation.

Ryan grinned. He knew his presentation had blown everyone away. "Well then," he said, "I'd like to conclude my presentation here. Thank you!"

Walking down to a smattering applause, he took his place next to Rachel, who applauded him the loudest with a huge smile on her face. She wished she could give presentations as effortlessly as him. Ryan grinned at her and checked his phone from underneath the desk. He scanned the messages and the twinkle in his brown eyes grew more. Looking at Rachel, who was still stupidly staring at him, he said, "Rach, Alex is coming to meet me in the cafe opposite to our college after about two years. Come with me during the break. I'll introduce you."

Ryan didn't usually mention Alex in his conversations but all Rachel knew about him was that Alex was his high school friend. And from Ryan's face, it was evident that he couldn't wait to catch up with his old friend again.

"Cool!" Rachel said, "It would be fun!"

"Great then!" Ryan exclaimed, "You go ahead after the lecture. I have some work with the professor and I'll join in five minutes."

"I can wait for you here itself if you want."

"Actually, go order two cups of cappuccino and something for yourself. They take ages to make those. Also, do keep an eye out for Alex."

"Okay."

Rachel walked to the cafe and looked around for a place to sit. But the cafe was bustling with people all around. The air was filled with the aroma of coffee. Rachel could hear the clinking of coffee mugs, the never ending chatter of the occupants and occasionally, cheerful laughter. She spotted an empty couple seat at a corner, perfect for her and Ryan. It faced the window and had a little rose in a glass vase. Rachel was tempted to go and sit there but she remembered that she had to save a seat for Alex as well. Reluctantly, she watched as a young couple occupied those seats within a few moments.

The only three empty seats were next to a girl who was sitting all alone in a table for four. Between standing awkwardly and sitting awkwardly, Rachel chose the latter. Approaching the girl, she asked, "Hey, are these seats taken?"

"They aren't. Make yourself comfortable," the girl said.
Rachel smiled at the girl and sat down.

"Your order?" the waiter asked her. "Two cappuccinos and one garlic bread please," Rachel replied.

Minutes passed in silence till the waiter got her order. The aroma of the garlic bread made Rachel drool. It had been so many days since she had her favourite dish. As she hungrily started digging in, she felt bad for eating alone and offered the girl some. "Oh no, thank you so much," she replied, "I'm waiting for someone, so I'll have something with them."

Rachel quietly took in the girl as she was busy typing something on her phone. She had straight dark hair that brushed her shoulders and wore green contact lenses. There was something about her that seemed serious and mysterious. So different to Rachel's blonde haired- blue eyed Barbie doll appeal but just as beautiful.

"Oh, hey guys!" came Ryan's voice as he walked in cheerfully. "Hey Ryan!" said both Rachel and the girl simultaneously. "Wait, you know Ryan?" Rachel frowned at the girl who gave a big smile towards Ryan. "Well, yeah. He was the guy I was waiting for," she said. "Wow it seems like you to hit it off before I even entered the cafe!" Ryan laughed.

Rachel couldn't comprehend anything. "Wait, what-what's going on?" she stammered in confusion.

"Let me formally introduce you two," Ryan said, "Alex, this is Rachel. Rachel, Alex." Rachel's eyes widened in surprise. "Alex is a girl?" she blurted out. If it's any consolation, she didn't use to behave like one before," Ryan said, "But why, Alex, you seem a bit changed. You actually look like a girl today!" "That doesn't mean I am going to stop using your expensive deos whenever I can." "Well then, there goes that hope down the drain," Ryan chuckled, "Here have this cappuccino."

Rachel sat and watched as Ryan took a bite of her garlic bread and gave a bite to Alex too, who accepted it this time. As the two started catching up on each other's life, she felt increasingly uncomfortable at the sincerity he showed Alex as he listened raptly to her stories compared to the amount of neglect and the occasional playful insults that she faced. Ryan, for all the careless flirting he did with her, talked gently and sincerely to Alex, almost like talking to a crush. Nevertheless, she plastered a smile on her face the entire time and managed to sound as normal as possible.

Once she reached home, she slammed the door and yelled in frustration. Anger and jealousy enveloped her. After all she had done for Ryan, he still thought Alex was better than her? A small voice in her head reminded her that she didn't know much about Alex, but she shut it down. That was not the point. Rachel had secretly loved Ryan for two years now. She had built up so many dreams while waiting patiently for him to ask her out. A few days ago she thought she detected some feelings from his side for her too. Turning the music on, Rachel sobbed into her pillow. Was this because she waited for so long, trusting him to make the first move? Was he going to take a piece of coal for a diamond?

No, she thought, I'll show him what I can do and win his heart back.

To be continued.

Hello everyone!

It has been a very hectic few months but I am glad to finally be back to blogging again!

This time I have got a really exciting announcement: I am starting a new blog! It is going to be on WordPress though as it has a variety of different advantages that Blogger does not have. Examples include: a variety of themes, cool new fonts, different theme colours and quirky widgets to add which gives it a fresh and crisp look.

I have completed designing my new blog and I hope you all will love it as much as I do!

As for this blog, this is going going to be my side blog! I will still post in it but the posts would be quite casual and random compared to the full fledged posts in my new blog. None of the older posts would be deleted.

My review: The Last of the Firedrakes is definitely in the list of my favourite fantasy debut novels of all time. It is enchanting, lovely and a must read for all the fantasy lovers.

Pros: The narration was brilliant. This most definitely did not seem like a debut novel but in fact it felt like the writing of an experienced author. Plot twists are in plenty, characters are relatable (and some, swoon-worthy) and the descriptions are so detailed that you'll feel that you are watching a movie inside your head!

Cons: Well, I cannot think of more cons other than the species of the characters. Same old faes and mages and pegasuses about whom we have already read in stories everywhere make an appearance here as well. It would be great if Farah included her own made up species of characters and monsters to add a welcome spice to the story.

Well, to be fair, there was a hybrid fae-mage, but we need more characters like that.

Conclusion: All in all, it is a very gripping and satisfying read and I would love to see more books from Farah.

Holà everyone!
With the exams fast approaching this festive season is going to be really hectic for us. It is that time of the year in which so many people (including me) search for all kinds of tips in Google in order to study faster and smarter. Some of the tips work, some of them do not and some of them might work but we never apply it in our lives (*cough* studying your portion as it is taught in college *cough*). What we don't realise is that by looking at all of these tips in the Internet, we are successfully procrastinating our time by not using it for studies (well, what's new in that?). And this is why most of the time, the tips fail to have an impact on our studies.

So I decided to experiment with some of the tips and find out whether they actually work or not and hence saving your time as well. The opinions are strictly mine, these tips might or might not work for you but I'll share my experience!
So here we go!

1. Keep your study place neat and tidy.

Believe it or not, this one actually works! I am a messy person and my study table usually looks as if it had just been hit by the stampede that killed Mufasa in the Lion King (oops spoiler) along with a tornado. So I decided to move my lazy butt for once and do some work by cleaning my room till it sparkled (well almost). Turns out that I did have a pleasant time studying. It gave me more room to pace along when I did not understand a sum and to sleep when I gave up on studies. Okay, jokes apart. This one actually works.

2. Study in the same place at the same time everyday.

Didn't work. I tried to do it but in the end I got really frustrated after sitting in the same room for a long time and ended up in the living room. This might work for some people but for me it didn't. Maybe it is because I like change, even if it is in my study place.

3. Jot down your own notes.

Completely, totally works. I can vouch for this one because have been making my own notes since the tenth grade and it was only because of those that I got a very good percentage in my board exams. So here are five thumbs up for this rule.

4. Study in groups

Bad idea if you are a chatterbox. Worse if you are friends are chatterboxes. Worst idea if all of you are chatterboxes. Otherwise, a good idea.

5. Take notes/Highlight with various colours

This isn't a HUGE transformation in your notes that will make you learn 1000 times better as people would like you to believe but it does help in remembering them fairly well and gives an appealing, colourful look to the otherwise boring book.

6. Plan your studies well beforehand.

Okay, let me be completely honest with you, this only works if you are a person who actually STICK to your plan. If you don't, please don't waste your time in planning. If you think you can atleast try to stick to your plans and finish maximum work as per your timetable, GO FOR IT!

7. Test yourself
This works. You can use practice papers on the back of the guides in order to test yourself on the lessons that you have just studied in order to know how much of it you have actually got into your mind. In this way you can understand how much you have learnt and how much you have not.

Finally it all boils down to your determination and will power. No matter whatever tips you use or don't, if you have the will within you, then there is always a way.

So these are some of the tips I tried and tested! If you have any more tips to share with your friends who are facing the exams right now, do feel free to include them in the comments! Do the tips above work for you? Let me know!
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">

As I have talked about this in my previous posts, being a Science student is definitely not a piece of cake, especially when it comes to hard work. Science is considered to be one of the toughest streams and I, as a Science student, can guarantee that it is a hundred percent true. Being a Science student is fun but it sucks a lot of times. Here are some things that an average Science student goes through:

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
1. The Syllabus: After being trained for so little in the tenth grade, the eleventh grade seems like a gigantic elephant in comparison to it. The horde of books for the eleventh and twelfth grade could dwarf the armies in the Lord of the Rings. There are only four main subject in the science stream which are Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology but the information encompassed in those books is insane! I feel that the makers of the textbooks think they are creating them for freaking NASA scientists as about half of the information in those books are never going to be used in our life.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
2. Schedules: Science students have one of the most crammed daily schedules ever. Especially in grade twelve. Lots of students go to tuitions in addition to college and that makes it even worse. Tuitions give homework to the students and so does the college and it burdens us. We are either in college or in tuitions or doing homework or eating or sleeping. We are completely drained as we finish our college-tuition routine and don't even feel like studying at the end of the day.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
3. Practicals: Practicals can be some of the better part of the life of an average Science student. Well, almost. The practicals are usually the highlight of the college lectures. It is quite interesting to experience science taking shape in front of you. Plus it is also a good time to make friends as well! "Could you lend me your journal for one day?", "Can you explain that to me again?", "Hey, please help take the readings of this instrument here that I have no idea how to use.","Can I borrow your pencil for now?", "Damn, I don't even understand what this old lady is teaching us.", "I'm going home as soon as this practical ends, who the hell sits for the lectures?" And of course, who can forget the little side quests that we take after finishing the practicals? It usually requires courage to mix two unknown chemicals and reagents without the teacher knowing what we are up to and without knowing the actual outcomes of the reactions. And that is what makes a science student feel like a science student. An additional advantage is: people think we are really smart when we walk around in a lab coat!

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
4. Board exams: This is basically a taboo word. Merely uttering this word makes whatever tiny happy world we have built around us come crashing down. The word "Exams" ring a giant alarm bell in our minds. Along with it comes a flood of remainders: Practicals start next week, journal submission tomorrow, EVS seminar on Monday,English oral examinations on Tuesday and theory exams starts two weeks later.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
And then the panic starts.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
And there is the whole affair of people scaring you. All the relatives collectively feel that you really need their 'valuable' advice and warnings."This year is extremely important for you. At least in the career point of view. So work as hard as possible in order to achieve most marks. Don't waste a single moment. If you just finish your twelfth, life would be so easy for you and you would enjoy it!" Yeah we heard the exact same words during our tenth grade, uncle. And we still hear it everywhere.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
Usually the people who give this advice was once a very mediocre student.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
And the result is that you get even more panicked than before.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
5. The "Aura": Many a times you must have seen Science students boasting about taking Science in front of students of other streams. You are bound to be irritated. But you know what? Just let them boast. Because that is all they have.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
A typical Science student, no matter what his/her percent is, likes to boast that he/she is in a slightly more difficult stream than the others in order to make himself feel a bit 'superior'. Even though he/she fails the exams consistently. I call this the 'Golden Aura of Science'. Because whenever a student mentions that he or she is in the science stream people look at them with this weird expression filled with awe and respect as if they are soldiers fighting against a demon for a noble cause. Like how Dobby looks at Harry Potter.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
Okay, I might be exaggerating this a bit.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
But it does feel like that, you know. It feels good. It feels like we've actually accomplished something major. Even though all we have done was to choose the Science stream and later moan about why the hell we chose it over Arts and Commerce.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
I am sure everyone could relate to this. If not, you are still in denial.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
6. Entrance Exams: Oh, you know what is gonna come ahead, don't you?

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
Entrance exams are a student's worst nightmares coming to life. In India, we have three major types of entrance examinations for the students in the Science stream. They are: the NEET exams for aspiring medical students, the JEE exams for aspiring engineers and CET exam for both separately. The NEET and JEE both contain negative markings as they are All India level but the CETs do not have that since it provides only state level admission. So lots of students just blindly place their hopes on CETs and do limited studies.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
If you were following the news, there was this whole fiasco of the medical CETs being cancelled and the NEETs replacing it in Maharashtra this year. That messed up many students's life. When it was declared that NEET would be the main exam, students didn't take CET seriously. Later they declared that the results of this year will be based on CET scores and NEET results will be applied from next academic year, well that made lots of students lose their minds.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
Well done, education department.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
7. Competition: With India being the second most populous country in the world and with a population of about 1.2 billion people, the competition is pretty tough for most of the time. No matter how good you are, there is always someone better than you. Always. Being on Science is the worst because there are a LOT of students and VERY less good colleges. Aaand there is the whole caste reservation system that puts students in the general category at a disadvantage. According to the recent news, the cut-off at Delhi University was apparently 99.25%. Well our future looks promising!

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">
But being in Science is not all thorns though. There are occasional roses here and there. We get to learn the reason behind simple things that we observe daily but never give much thought to it (eg: Why is the surface of water in a test tube concave? How does a refrigerator work? Which solution is used in dry cleaning? What exactly is light? How are polymers made? How does life originate? etc.) These small questions and their perfect answers makes us realise the complexity of the world and helps us to appreciate it better.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans, sans-serif; line-height: 23px; margin: 0px; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; widows: auto;">

Namasté and hello everyone!

April and May were super busy months for me and this year they went as soon as they arrived! Time flies.

So here are some things that happened to me these months:

1. I caught a cold.
Okay, this might not sound that interesting, but for me, cold and flu are a giant no. It is because once I catch the flu, it dosen't leave me for months together. And untill it subsides, I am not allowed to eat or drink anything cold.
And of course, the stupid flu decided to attack me during summer.
Honestly, summer is the worst time to catch a cold. It is like reading Hunger Games all over again. All the things that you love leaves you.
But Flu during Summer? How weird is that considering it is 41 degree Celsius everyday?!

I desperately needed to eradicate the flu from my body

So here are some things I tried that might help you one day:
A. Drink loads of hot/warm water. Trust me, it really works
B. Inhale some steam.
This is definitely an age old practice so I guess everyone knows this by now. Or just take a steamy bath.
C. Apply Eucalyptus oil to your sore nose.
Okay, I'll warn you: When you apply it on your nose which is sore after rubbing it again and again on your tissue, it hurts. A lot. It is basically searing pain in its pure form. But it numbs your skin after a minute and feels pleasant later. It is just like aftershave. Plus I actually have a special technique to dilute the pain to a considerable extent. All you have to do is take a piece of cloth or tissue and make it damp with cold water. Once you apply the oil/essence on your sore nose, immediately place the cloth on your nose to lessen the pain. It works. I tried it.

2. I started 12th grade.
Let me tell you what I have learnt:
Take Science as your stream only if you are either willing to manage time efficiently and study really hard or if you are willing to sacrifice your happiness and hobbies and study really hard.
There are lots of privilages in taking the Science stream in India. Your parents announce with pride, "My child is a Science student." and people look at you with awe as if you have climbed Mount Everest. At that time, you will feel the non existent golden aura of being a 'Science student' enveloping you.
Yep. The stamp of society's approval.
Additional advantage: You can change streams after 12th as Science is the hardest stream.
But believe me, apart from this, Science is not extremely fun. Especially if you hate Chemistry and Maths or if you are really creative and stuff. In that case, take Arts. It might be better; I don't have an idea about it though. Oh, the times I wished to change my streams to Arts is inumerable, even it is still mostly shunned by the conservative Indian society. It was one of the main reasons I opted for Science. I got a great percent in my 10th grade but now I am so down in my 11th that I am praying to all the gods in the world to just get me promoted to 12th. I think I will get promoted. Pray for me. (Update: I did get promoted. Yippee.)

3. Nine hours of tutions: Yep you heard it right. Nine freaking hours. In the freaking summer vacations. What was worse was that I had to catch a crowded train, stand for twenty minutes while being mercilessly sandwiched in the insane crowd (this part needs a whole another post to describe properly) and walk for half an hour to reach the class every morning, which was in the district capital. My mind used to be completely saturated after hours of learning about unsaturated hydrocarbons. Thankfully, I got shifted back to my own city's branch of tutions.

4. Major motivation collapse: This was a horrible experience I had recently. One day I woke up happily and took my Physics textbook in my hand just to realise that my brain rejected any attempt to accept any input from my eyes or store it. I was constantly distracted, even by the plain wall in front of me. That's when I realised that I didn't want to study anymore. None of the derivations mattered to me. I had ZERO motivation. So I just wrapped myself in a blanket along with my misery and sat on the bed, rocking back and forth holding my Physics textbook in my hand while my mom scolded me for killing time in vain. I requested a lot of my friends to help me get out of that hellhole and motivate me. Finally, I googled some advice and it really helped me. Here's a link to it if you are feeling down:

Oh, and speaking of Motivation, do check out my INCREDIBLE friend, Irene's post on motivation which will definitely get you sparking with energy! Click HERE to read it!
Here's an excerpt:

"<span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: "roboto" , sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25.6px;">Work for victory. Work to transcend mediocrity. Work to look down upon the nuances of the world and know that you’ve conquered it."

I am really excited for May as my family will have a house-warming ceremony for our new home! I wouldn't be moving there till next year though as the new house is in other city and not in the city I currently live in right now, which is also the location of my college and tutions.

Update: My guests arrived and the house warming ceremony was amazing! Yep, I had TWO days of 'not-studying' and I am so grateful for that.

So that's all for April and May! I hope you are having fun, wherever you are. If not, the dark times you are going through will be over soon.
All the book lovers agree that Harry Potter is probably one of the best series they have ever read. Some people (like me) are obsessed with anything and everything related to the series. Harry Potter related jewellery are not only a great way to accessorise yourself but also to show your love towards the fandom. Here's how you can make a Harry Potter related pendant and ring by yourself at home. The best thing is, these are super inexpensive and fun to make.

Let's get started!

What you'll need:

1. M-seal
2. Acrylic paints (Silver and Black)
3. Strong glue
4. Clear plastic sheet
5. Paint brush
6. Blade (optional)

Steps:

Step 1: Sketch the symbol of the Deathly Hallows on a clear plastic sheet by using a thin marker. this will serve as your base for making the pendent.

Step 2: Mix the M-seal well and lay it on the sketch on the plastic sheet in the perfect shape. This is going to be your pendant. So don't forget to put a loop of M-seal on it as well so that you can insert it in the chain. Use a blade to straighten the triangle and remove extra bits of M-seal from it.

Step 3: For the ring, make a Harry Potter glasses and attach a lightning scar made up of M-seal as shown in the picture below. Also, make a ring like arc with enough space for your finger to go through as well as enough space saw the glass like M-seal structure to fit between the ends of the ring.

Step 4: Remove the Deathly Hallows structure once it has dried and let all the three set for a while.

Step 5: Now attach the M-seal glasses to the ring with a strong glue and secure all the joints with it. Let it dry for an hour.

Step 6: Paint it in black.

Step 7: Now, paint it in silver to achieve the 'ancient silver' look.

Step 8: Let it dry for a day.
All the bookworms simply ADORE bookmarks and that is the universal truth! Everyone is looking for a unique bookmark or a 'fandom-related' bookmark or just a simple bookmark to place between the pages of the book they are reading. Some people (like me) are addicted to them! Sometimes, bookmarks are also used to give the book an extra interesting look and appeal and is a cause of envy for other book lovers. So without any further ado, here's how you can make a unique and cute bookmark on your own!

How to make a prop bookmark:

Definition: (What? I am a Science student, everything starts with a definition according to me. Except maybe true love. Or food.) A prop bookmark is basically a bookmark with a small prop, i.e. figurine attached to it.

The things that you'll need:

1.A piece of cardboard according to the length of your book or a sheet of chart paper of any colour you wish
2. Strong glue.
3. Sketch pens, thin markers.
4. M-seal or any clay that hardens quickly.
5. Fabric/Acrylic paint.
6. Paint brushes.
7. Scissors, unicorns, etc.

Okay, maybe no unicorns. Though, that would have been fun.

Here are the steps to make one:

Step 1: Cut the piece of cardboard paper in a rectangular strip according to the length of the book. If you are using chart paper, cut it into a long rectangular strip and then fold it in half to make the bookmark thick enough to support the prop. Avoid making the strip too thick or your book will have a strange swelling to it.

Step 2: Once you make the base strip of your bookmark, you can start with the prop. The prop I have made here is that of a girl resting her arms and her head on the pages of the book. Now, take the m-seal and mix the resin and hardener thoroughly to form a homogeneous dough.

Step 3: Remember, m-seal is quite annoying as it starts setting up after half an hour of mixing. So start making a face and hands from it right away. First, separate the m-seal in proper quantities for the features. For the face, you can make a smooth oval and create its features after that. Add the hair made using a flat piece of M-seal and any additional accessories (I made a small red hair bow). For the hands, just roll out a cylinder and then flatten one edge to make it seem like palms.

Step 4: Now place the hands in such a way that the palms overlap each other. Secure them with strong glue. Now, place the head in such a way that it is tilted slightly to one side and it rests over the palms. This is a tricky part so be careful and quick. Support the structure in the back with some more M-seal if needed.

Step 5: This is definitely the most hardest step of all. By now, the M-seal starts to dry and and it becomes really difficult to mould it.
So you'll need to do this quickly. Make a slit on the bottom of your prop and attach one edge of the chart paper base in it after applying some strong glue in the slit. Make sure that it is well supported and ensure that the prop doesn't fall off the base.

Step 6: Let it dry overnight. You can use a thick book to support it. Just ensure that the base of the prop does not have any rouge glue oozing out of it or else the pages would stick to your bookmark.
And if you try this on your textbook, hey, I will not be held responsible for any page - tearing incident.

Step 7: Once it is hard and dry, it's time to paint it! If your M-seal is white, you might not need any base coat, but if your M-seal is black like mine, it needs a white base coat. Paint it completely white so that the colours you will apply later will be opaque and bright.

Step 8: Now, splash your prop with colours! (That was just a phrase, colour it carefully) You can use any colours you want but it is more advisable to use bright, eye-catching colours.

Step 9: Detailing time! Add details like eyes, lips, the creases on the bow, etc.

Step 10: Let it dry overnight.

Congratulations! You just learnt how to make a super-cute prop bookmark!
The best part of this is that it is unique, handmade and you can make a prop of basically anyone and anything. You can even make a fandom-related bookmark or an animal shaped bookmark.
I hope you liked this tutorial! Was it worth writing this for three days on my train journey? I think it was!
It feels so good to be back writing in my blog after a month! But I hope this post was worth it. :)
Namaste!

Why did I greet you with a namaste? That's because 'Namaste' means, "I bow down to the divine within you". Beautiful greeting, isn't it? Read on, because what I am going to say is important.

You matter to this world. You are a wonderful, beautiful miracle. This is your life. You can change it whenever you want. Live happily. Don't choose anything that brings unhappiness to you unless it is beneficial to the whole society. Make your choices. Don't ever regret doing things that made you happy in a good way. It is almost never too late to do anything you want. Nothing is impossible.

Work smart. Do your work consistently. You will reach your goal in life, no matter how far away it is. But always have your goal in your mind. Think about what wonders will wait for you when you cross the mountain of hard work, agony and failures. There is a wonderful life waiting for you. There is success waiting for you. There is happiness waiting for you. Plus if you become famous enough, you can meet your favourite celebrities too!

Be independent. Never depend completely on somebody to do your work. They have their own life and difficulties to take care of. Learn to love yourself. Never be negatively influenced by what others say about you. You do not live for them. You live for yourself. Never act like somebody else. Be yourself.

There comes a time when you feel like giving up. Like you are worthless. You feel as if your life is just a miserable series of failures. But remember, failures are stepping stones to success. Never give up. Don't be ashamed to cry. Crying expels all the negative energy within your body. You will feel better after a good cry.

There are so many people who care about you. Your family, friends and relatives love you.There are more than a billion cells in your body and all they care about is your well being. You are the result of a 3.7 billion years of evolution. Never underestimate yourself.

You have so many beautiful things to see and experience in your life. You are not alone. Don't feel ashamed. Time heals everything. People tend to forget.

Achieve something. Show the world that you can do something. Value time. Respect nature. Try to see things from the perspective of others before you argue. Compete with yourself. Be strong. Be brave. Achieve your dream. Change your life. You are unique.

Love,
Manasa.

P.S. This is an improved version of the letter I wrote to encourage myself. I hope you are as inspired by it as I myself am.
Hi there!

Happy New Year 2016!!!!!!
Congratulations on surviving 2015, that was one tough year.

So along with the new year comes new resolutions, new starts and new things. And I am happy to announce that I have a brand new "Subscribe" bar on the top of my blog! You can just enter your e-mail address there to get subscribed to my posts! Note: If you are reading this in the mobile, switch the view into web version. You'll get it. Plus, how's the new template? I liked the web version more than the mobile one. Check it out! Fitting, right?

Anyway, this year, I am going to post lots of creative things on my blog (or that's the plan) and maybe I will get to interact with some of you too! I am going to make my blog more 'Books and Creativity' centered so that I will have a theme to stick to. Plus this year, I am starting my 12th grade so I might not be able to post more frequently in my blog. But I'll make sure that whatever the things I post on are worth the wait.

For me, 2015 was a great year. I scored good marks in my 10th grade finals, I joined a new college, made new friends, discovered new T.V shows, books and fandoms *sigh*. I created this blog in April 2015. I had a great time.

I want 2016 to be a...well, basically a good year. I don't think I will have much fun this year because 12th grade finals are EXTREMELY important in India and I will be drowned in a massive, relentless ocean of books, an avalanche of perplexing formulae and a vast syllabus of boredom. So, yeah, wish me luck.

What I am interested most, though, is this: How did 2015 go for you? And what do you expect to happen in 2016? Tell me in your comments below!

Do subscribe to my blog! I promise I'll make time to post good stuff in my blog! Maybe, that will be my new year resolution.

Random fact: I am currently reading 'Cinder' by Marissa Meyer right now.
Hello there!

Hope you are having a great festive time!
So as I said in my previous posts, I wanted to give a Pre - Christmas gift to all the book readers and so here it is: DIY Character bookmarks!

I was making a few drawings on Microsoft Paint a few months earlier when I thought, Hey! Why not draw some characters from books! And when I did that, another thought came to my mind, Hey! Why not turn them into bookmarks! Thus it began.

So here are the self-made bookmarks that I wanted to share with you!

Step 1: Download this picture.

Step 2: Take a colour print-out.
Step 3: Cut it out.
Step 4: Fold the red strip on the top backwards to make a bookmark.

And Done! Viola! You have got your own Character bookmarks, ready to accessorize your books!

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a great day!

So I was going through my Instagram feed and saw that many people were complaining about school. I saw loads of posts that were captioned "I hate school", "School sucks" ,etc.

And being the person who will gladly spend any amount of time by just thinking about random things in order to postpond the overwhelming mountain of work in front of me, I wondered what was the reason why so many people simply hate school.

Then the little voice on the back of my head said, Duh! Who are you kidding? You hated school too.

True. Actually, I did not hate my school.My school was the best school in the whole city! I had absolutely no problem getting up early. My school itself was big and beautiful, with spacious classrooms and airy corridors. I loved the faculty (maybe except a few) and the other staff members. It was just that I couldn't fit in with my classmates.

Now don't get me wrong. I had such fun time with few people who I really cared about. But the thing was, I couldn't really understand the character of my classmates. So yeah, I was basically a loner.

Being the odd one out in my class, I had to face many problems. As my luck factor was really low, most of my friends were are almost always in different divisions . So I would be stuck alone in my class unable to get any help from anyone during homework submissions, projects, assignments, etc. I was really late in making friends when I was young (now don't blame me! I was a shy but hot tempered kid) and when I was old enough and ready to make new friends, the friend circles were already formed and obviously I was left alone without any group or squad. I felt like an outsider and I always had an I-am-not-supposed-to-be-here feeling. More than anything, I wanted people to talk with me. But people would do that only when they were bored of everything else or if they wanted a favor. So my usual past time was just sitting on the lectures, studying and daydreaming about the time when I would finally meet my real friends, escape my school life and become social person.

And this was the time when I was introduced to the Harry Potter novels which set a chain reaction in motion and I began to discover the world of books, fiction, fantasy and possibilities. I began to derive strength from books and they helped me survive through my lonely days. My books have literally become my best friends during high school years.

Now since I have joined junior college, I am finding new opportunities and making new friends. I have finally learnt how to mingle with people and have fun.But I wouldn't have known the meaning and importance of friendship if it wasn't for my school.

This whole experience taught me that times change. If your having a bad time right now, remember every person has ups and downs in their lives. Like the drowning man who kept clinging on to a plank on a raging sea until he was finally washed ashore, just hold on to your happy memories, hope and determination. Things will definitely change for the better. Then your school will be proud of you since you'd become the successful person you always wanted to be. They might even put up billboards with your picture in it.

Well.

I think that was enough inspirational speech for this year.

Do click on the 'G+1' button and leave a comment below if you had any similar incidents in your life. You can even add my blog in your reading list or simply share it on different social media.
So don't hate school, be happy and have a great day ahead!

P.S : To any of my former schoolmates reading this, I love you all! Please don't take it in the wrong way. And thank you since you have made me stronger.
Summary:

This is the spin-off series to the Percy Jackson and The Olympians series.

A new Great Prophecy, a new generation of demigods – the adventures have just begun! In this five-book series, expect to see your old friends from the Percy Jackson books along with a great new cast of main characters, as the heroes of Camp Half-Blood embark on their most dangerous challenge yet.(Goodreads)

My review: The Heroes of Olympus series was one of the most interesting spin-off series I have read so far. We meet Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase again, but this time, with a host of new, interesting characters and a whole new world. But this time there is a greater danger than the one before.

The series was fun and thrilling but in some places, it was disappointing. Well then, what are we waiting for? Let's see more about this series!

Pros: There are a host of diverse characters in this series that you will definitely love. You can relate the characters with real life people. The series is an epic adventure and the plot is so good and thrilling that it will keep you on the edge of your seat. As it is in Rick Riordan's books, every chapter ends with a cliffhanger. Personally, I loved The Mark of Athena and The House of Hades a lot. They felt so real! All the characters are strong, brave and lovable. The female characters are well written. The plot is just incredible.

Cons: When I started reading this series for the first time, I barely got through the first chapter. The Lost Hero was a boring book. Only a character named Leo kept me going. Once I got through the book, the rest of the series swept me off the feet like a hurricane of amazingness. Another con is that after all the buildup, the ending disappointed me. Not that it was not amazing and awesome and all that, but I felt like it was too rushed. But the last book had the POVs of two misunderstood characters that everyone loved a lot after The Blood Of Olympus, so the book was totally worth it.

Conclusions: I totally recommend this series because it is worth reading and takes you to a fantastic journey. Do not miss it or stop reading it even though the first book is a little boring. Oh, and this spin-off series has an another spin-off series! Yes, The Trials of Apollo series comes out during May 2016!
The Blogger's Note .

Hello my dear viewers! I am Manasa and you are reading the Blogger's Note!

Bit obvious, wasn't it?

So anyway, this is a new section I am going to add from now. What is the Blogger's note?

I'll tell you.

The Blogger's Note is basically a section in which I get to talk to you all and share my opinions. It is also the section in which I will be announcing future projects, some important things, quotes, titbits and almost random things.

You will come to know about me soon.

One of my favourite hobbies is to make someone's day happier. To leave a smile on someone's lips. To see the brightness in their eyes. I love to compliment people and love it more when they reciprocate it. We derive some sort of pleasure when we know that we made someone happy.

I didn't have a lot of exposure towards the field of writing even though all I want is to become a writer. This is my first blog and I just love the idea of blogging! Whoever invented this must be a genius. It is such fun to watch people from different states in my country as well as people from different countries read my articles and I feel so humbled!

And that is exactly why I love you all. Because you took time to read what I have written and appreciate it. You all literally make my day happier when I see the number of views I have got. It is not much, but it still makes me smile.

So I take this moment to thank you all and stay tuned for more! Do follow my blog, share and leave comments! That will surely make my day!

Oh, and last minute notes: A Very Albanian Story Part 2 will not be published till I get more views. Seriously, I love you guys but thirteen views? That is too less. So if you want the story to be continued, you better share it to as many Percy Jackson - Heroes of Olympus fans or I will just leave it. ( JK I will never leave a story in half. I know how much pain an unfinished story causes. But I will write it very slowly. I might finish it, like, ten years later.)

<span style="font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; line-height: 22px;">Summary - Cath and Wren identical twins and until recently they did absolutely everything together. Now they're off to University and Wren's decided she doesn't want to be one half of a pair anymore - she wants to dance, meet boys, go to parties and let loose. It's not so easy for Cath. She would rather bury herself in the fan fiction she writes where there's romance far more intense than anything she's experienced in real life.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; line-height: 22px;"> Now Cath has to decide whether she is ready to open her heart to new people and new experiences, and she's realizing that there's more to learn about love than she ever thought possible.

<span style="font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; line-height: 22px;">My review - Reading Fangirl was like having a warm cup of milk in winter. It is a very sweet story but sometimes it becomes boring. Let us see the pros and cons of this book.

<span style="font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; line-height: 22px;">Pros - Cath is a very sweet character and is like every fangirl in this world. She is in love with Simon and Baz, who are two characters of a book series. She writes fanfiction, which is awesome. Levi is such a sweet, sweet guy! The book almost shines because of Levi! This book is totally warm hearted with no sinister plans or sudden character deaths or any stuff like that. But the best thing in this book is that it completely captures the spirit of a fangirl as well as how it is to be really anxious. Cath is almost like a real person and we forget that she's a character from a book.

<span style="font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; line-height: 22px;">Cons - I felt like there were some noticeable cons in the book. The plot wasn't extremely gripping and there were no twists in the story. Maybe except a few minor ones. Cath literally stayed inside her college dorm the whole time and she never comes out of it due to anxiety (well almost). Which means most of the story occurs in the college dorm or in her home where she sits with her laptop, writing fanfiction the whole time or gets in trouble with her persuassive english teacher. Sometimes she gets anxious for even small things which becomes too tedious to read. And obviously, we don't know who Simon and Baz are so it takes some time to sort out the story. Plus the ending felt sudden.

<span style="font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; line-height: 22px;">Conclusion - Despite the hype about this book, it wasn't THAT interesting to me. Maybe it is not exactly my type, but I recommend you to read a free sample before buying it. Or read it from the library. It was a good book though.

This story is a fusion between two
different years, but everything is possible in fanfics, right? Oh, and BTW,
this story contains MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE HEROES OF OLYMPUS SERIES. So if you
haven’t read them yet, please refrain from reading this story. You won’t
understand them. Finally, this story
takes place between the House of Hades and Blood of Olympus and between Chamber
of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban (I know they are two different decades). So
I hope you will enjoy this fanfic! Do leave comments and suggestions!

Reyna gave Annabeth a hug. “We will succeed,”
she promised. “I know you will,”
Annabeth said. Coach Hedge shouldered his baseball bat. “Yeah, don’t worry! I’m
going to get to camp and see my baby! Uh, I mean I’m going to get this baby to
camp!” he patted the leg of the Athena Parthenos.

“All right,” said Nico. “Grab the
ropes, please. Here we go.” Reyna and Hedge took hold. The air darkened. The
Athena Parthenos collapsed into its own shadow and disappeared, along with its
escorts.

REYNA

It was the
nausea that hit Reyna first. She’d
braced for any sort of impact since she’d never shadow travelled before. But she never expected this.

The air
darkened and became cold and frigid. Reyna started shivering. Voices of the ghosts that haunted her old home
in her childhood whispered softly in her ears.
They weren’t very clear, but she could make out what they were saying. Traitor. Murderer. Betrayer. Reyna forced all the feelings of guilt deep,
deep inside her.

When
they materialised back again, she felt dizzy and sick. She sat down heavily and
focused on her breathing. After a while, when she felt she was steady again, she
realised that Nico had brought them in a grassland in the middle of the
forest. Reyna stood up and opened her
mouth to ask Nico where they’d arrived when she saw that he was asleep and
Coach Hedge had fallen on his face, groaning loudly. “Coach, are you alright?” Reyna asked. Coach
Hedge scrambled up to his feet and grumbled, “Of course, I am fine, Roman. It
is the boy who needs to have a rest,” he said pointing to Nico.

Coach
Hedge and Reyna removed the ropes that tied Nico to the Athena Parthenos and
gently laid him on the ground, putting the backpack under his head as a pillow.
“We have to find something for dinner now,” said Reyna, “unless we want to
sleep starving.” “Don’t worry, dinner’s on me. You just find us a place to rest
for the night,” said Coach Hedge. “Sure.
But where do you reckon are we?” she asked.
Coach Hedge looked around and sniffed the air. “Oak, Beech, Elm. Maybe
we are somewhere to the north of Greece....” He took out three acorns and a
pipe from his pocket. He put the acorns on the ground, surrounding them with
leaves. Muttering something about how he hated music, he played a strange tune
on his pipe.

The
acorns rearranged themselves along with the leaves which made a sort of map.
Reyna studied it carefully.”Hey, this looks like a map of Albania!” she
exclaimed. “That explains Beech and Oak. But what I don’t understand is the
smell of decay...maybe some animal corpse is nearby,” said Coach Hedge. “We’ll take care of that later, Coach. For
now, I’ll go and find a cave or something,” said Reyna “We can’t sleep in the
open.”

Leaving
Coach Hedge to take care of the dinner, Reyna set out to explore the forests. Rays
of the setting sun streamed through the gaps between the leaves, dust swirling
in it. Birds chirped lazily, retiring to their nests for the coming night. The
whole forest had a mysterious musky smell to it. As if it were hiding something
from the unwary people who entered it.

About
an hour later, Reyna stumbled across an abandoned, ruined house. It was ancient
and crumbling, with plants growing from its cracks. It seemed about a century
old and had a strange, decaying smell enveloping it. Frowning, Reyna pushed the rusted main gate,
which made a loud, creaking noise, and stepped inside the courtyard. As she entered, she felt some sort of
tingling sensation in her skin, as if she had walked through a thin curtain of
electricity. Something felt wrong there. Immediately, the hair on her skin
stood up and each and every instinct in her body screamed to her to run. Reyna
knew by experience that nothing good would come if she didn’t listen to her
sharp instincts. So she turned away immediately and ran back towards the Athena
Parthenos. Maybe they were better off
sleeping in the open than in that house.

NICO

Nico
woke up at noon the next day. And his first thought was: Burgers. Gods of
Olympus, he was ravenous. Nico frowned. He was never this hungry during his
brief stay at the Argo-II. Maybe shadow travelling had helped to increase his
appetite. He rubbed his eyes and saw the Roman praetor and Coach Hedge eating
sandwiches. “So you are awake,” the praetor announced, “Have some sandwiches.
We will leave at the evening.” It took all of Nico’s self control not to gobble
them all as soon as they were kept before him since Reyna was carefully observing
all his actions.

After he had finished his lunch, aka his
skipped dinner plus breakfast plus lunch, he leaned against a tree watching Coach
Hedge writing a letter to his wife and checking the traps that he had set all
around the Athena Parthenos and the all trees near it. Reyna strolled casually
next to Nico and leaned against the tree too. “I went to search for a place to
rest for the night yesterday,” she said in a low voice, “I came across a ruined
bungalow. It was old and creepy. But
what bothered me the most was that it had some sort of...mist around it. An
aura of death...” she studied him carefully as if he might know the cause
behind it. “I could sense lots of deaths
around here,” he said slowly, “But there might be a lot of dead animals in this
forest, right? What you sensed could be one of them.” “I did think about that
first, but it wasn’t just that. I had this strange feeling when I stepped in
that house. Like, something was wrong there. I think it is the lair of some
kind of a monster. We need to go and
check that place,” insisted Reyna. “Fine then.” Nico sighed. “We’ll go and have
a look. But what about Coach Hedge?”
“No, I don’t want to put him at risk,” said Reyna, “We will ask him to
guard the Athena Parthenos.” “Okay.” With that, Nico asked Coach Hedge to look
after the statue and followed Reyna into the woods.

What Gleeson Hedge wanted more
than anything else was a TV. He was almost ready to even sell the statue for
it.

Left all alone with only the
statue and his baseball bat for company, he took a piece of paper and started
writing a letter to Mellie. Pan’s pipes, he missed her so much. Her smile, the
way she laughed... Hedge sighed. He had to go back to Mellie and his unborn
child. Finishing his letter, he paced around the tree.

He looked up towards the branch
and an idea struck him. Why not make a trap that would make the monsters hang
upside down? Ah, yes. That would be fun. Then maybe he could even give the
monsters a good bangin’ on their head. Humming a tune of a Chuck Norris film to
himself, he removed some ropes and sticks from his bag pack and started his
work happily.

Reyna silently walked through the
forests with Nico along her side. The sound of chirping birds filled the air.
But they seemed to quieten as they reached the old house.

Reyna turned to look at Nico. “This
is the house I was talking about,” she announced. Nico had a deep frown on his
face. “I can sense death nearby,” he murmured, “But it is all...wrong.” He
concentrated for some time and then blinked. “Let’s scout the perimeter of this
house,” he suggested.

They walked outside the fence. The
house felt creepy...it sent bad vibes. Reyna could see a few vultures circling
above the house. The front door was broken and wide open, but it only revealed
complete darkness inside the house. The rotting smell became stronger. The
walls were cracked and the old glass window was so dusty that-

Reyna stopped abruptly and stared
at the window. She thought she’d just
seen a face in the window. But it was gone. “Nico?” she whispered “I think I
just saw-” she stopped when she realised that Nico wasn’t there. Where had he
gone?

Cursing herself, she rushed and
turned around the corner of the fence to see an ashen faced Nico. And a
decaying corpse of a woman ahead of them.
Summary: Percy Jackson thinks that he is just a troubled kid
attending a school for troubled kids. But soon enough, he accidently vaporizes
his maths teacher and his life becomes anything but safe and normal. He
realises that he is a demigod, a son of a Greek god, and is sent to Camp Half
Blood, a camp where demigod kids like him would be safe and receive training to
battle monsters. Percy makes new friends
in the camp and together they go on dangerous quests. But Percy soon finds out
that there is more to being a powerful demigod than just fighting lousy
monsters. The worst enemy of the gods rises and according to the great
prophecy, Percy would have to make a choice that would safeguard or destroy the
gods and the world forever.

My review: The Percy Jackson series is, hands down, a
fantastic series! Narrated in first person by the witty demigod protagonist,
Percy, this series would totally grip you! Let’s have a look at its pros and
cons.

Pros: Almost everything is a pro here! Percy is a hilarious guy
who is sassy and sarcastic even in the gravest of times. His friends Grover and
Annabeth are also as awesome as him. The trio goes to quests, defeats monsters,
vaporizes evil maths teachers and handles impossible situation with ease. The
story brims with imagination, humour and excitement and each chapter ends in a cliff
hanger. Percy is portrayed so realistically that you will just forget that he
is a fictional guy!

Cons: I seriously don’t know what to write in this section.
But I will definitely warn you, please do not read this series when you have
exams if you don’t want to fail.

My review – This series is, as I proudly declare, the best
series I have ever read. There isn’t a single dull chapter in the entire

in it. Still I will try my best. So, let us have a look at the pros and
‘un’cons.

Pros – I seriously don’t know where to start! The whole
series is a pro! The plot, the characters, their qualities, the mysteries, the
twists, the language and the morals are all fantastic! There are lots of jokes,
light hearted humour and sarcasm to balance the dark theme, terrifying events
and evil powers at work. Harry is someone you can totally relate with (except for
the fact that he is a wizard) and J.K.Rowling has portrayed him so well that
you feel everything that Harry feels. So
beware of mood swings while reading this series! There are so many lessons taught in this
The Divergent trilogy is a series of young adult science fiction adventure novels by Veronica Roth set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian Chicago. The trilogy consists of Divergent (2011), Insurgent (2012) and Allegiant (2013).

The society of the trilogy defines its citizens by their social and personality-related affiliation with five different factions, which removes the threat of anyone exercising independent will and threatening the population's safety. Beatrice Prior, who later changed her name to Tris, an Abnegation-born and Dauntless transfer, must figure out her life as a Divergent, while concealing her true nature, and living with the danger of being killed if it is discovered by the Dauntless leaders. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">My review – The divergent trilogy is definitely a page
turner. The plot is engrossing and the suspense is brilliant. However, it does come with minuscule faults. Let’s
see the pros and cons in this fantastic trilogy.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Pros –The plot is very good. The main thing I
liked about this story is that the characters are strong. They are brave and courageous. The protagonist
inspires the reader a lot. The twists in the story are so unpredictable. There
is one big twist in Insurgent that will definitely shock you. The first two
books are totally gripping. There are power packed action scenes with nail
biting suspense.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Cons- The third book in the series, Allegiant, was good at
the start but became boring and slow paced in the middle due to a slight
overload of scientific stuff. Nevertheless, it gave all the answers which were
needed. Additionally, it has a lot of character deaths.

Hey everyone! I just thought to
improvise my reviews a bit. So I will be adding recommended age group according
to me to read the books I review so that you all may get an idea of which book
will be suitable and interesting to you. But you are on your own freedom to
choose the books and so you can definitely read any of them. I really hope the
additional feature would be useful to you. On an additional note, even though
character deaths aren’t exactly’ faults’, yet I will put them in the cons
section just to warn you since they have broken millions of hearts and have reduced
many people to tears. Suggestions are welcome!

Summary – The Krishna Key centres on Ravi Mohan Saini, the protagonist and a historian who has been accused of the murder of his childhood friend Anil Varshney. In an attempt to clear his name, Saini looks into the past of Indian Mythology's grey areas and uncovers the truth about a serial killer who believes himself to be Kalki, the final avatar of Lord Vishnu. Saini travels from the ancient ruins of the Lost City of Dwaraka to Vrindavan temples in an attempt to discover one of Krishna's treasures and stop the killer from murdering his friends who are also under the threat.

The plot involves four different pieces of the seal which must be brought together to solve the puzzle. Each part of the seal is in the possession of different people who are the descendants of the Yadava tribes namely Saini,Bojaraj, Varshney and Chhedi. The author narrates a detailed version of the post-Mahabharata history through the protagonist, a distinguished professor of history, who himself happens to be a lineal descendant of Krishna being from Saini tribe of Punjab. The Author also portrays the autobiography of Lord Krishna from his birth to death in his own words, in parallel to the main story-line. (Wikipedia)

My review - The Krishna Key is definitely an awesome thriller. It is a thoroughly researched novel and it presents loads of stunning facts which were never known before. The book is very good but there are some drawbacks.

Pros – The Krishna key has a good plot. It gives lots of information that helps us to know more about temples and places in India. It throws light on the legendary Sarasvati river. The plot twists are good and the major twist in the middle of the story is completely unexpected. The storyline is good and each chapter begins with a paragraph of Lord Krishna’s autobiography and this is a welcome change. The story is gripping and it gives a good moral.

Cons- The book becomes somewhat boring in some places when lengthy discussions take place. Some facts are hard to believe. Also, the main character is not as interesting as others and this is a major flaw according to me. The climax is sort of weird for me since it is too much to process and does not make sense.

Conclusion – This book is definitely worth a read since its flaws are small and not much noticeable. It is a gripping and captivating thriller and a good effort by the author.
